This coffee; known as Tayronaca, comes from the Sierra Madre region in Colombia's Northern Magdelena Region which borders the Caribbean Sea and rises swiftly and dramatically from Sea Level to ideal coffee elevations of 1200-1500 meters. The coffee is Rainforest Alliance Certified and boasts full shade over 75% and shade over 25% of the trees. The arabica type is primarily Typica with some Caturra and a small amount of Bourbon trees. The Magdalena Tayronaca Organic Project seeks to preserve the ancestral cultivation practices and improve the way of life of the growers. "Reserve of the Man and the Biosphere" is how UNESCO described the project.
