Sumatran coffee beans offer a complex taste. Most of the coffees from Sumatra are dry-processed, but some are semi-washed. A common variety of Sumatran coffee is Mandheling that is grown inland from the southern coast. Sumatra coffee grown farther west is usually marked Gayo Mountain and is described as sweet and clean.
